All of our children have severe social and communication difficulties and moderate to severe learning difficulties. Many have other associated difficulties, such as sensory processing issues, challenging behaviours, and food intolerances. All of our pupils have been diagnosed by our consultant psychologist, Dr. Jim Ellis, who also monitors progress through weekly Skype sessions with the tutors.
Dr Ellis, consultant speech pathologist, Dr. Kerry Davis, and consultant occupational therapist Ms. Jen Stornelli visit the School two-to-four times a year, to provide on-going training for tutors and parents. We are excited by the progress the children have made. When they came to us, none could communicate verbally and their non-verbal communication skills were severely limited. Since then, social behaviours have improved dramatically. Some can talk while others use iPads or pictures to communicate. A few can read and do math.
We currently have 18 children aged 3 – 12 years, but we have children awaiting admission on our waitlist, and we expect demand to grow in the coming years.
